2020 Democratic Debates – On the Big Screen

The intrepid Battle Park, Greenwood, and colonial Heights Precints of the Orange County Democratic Party are proud to present, on the BIG SCREEN, the inaugural Democratic presidential debates of the 2020 election cycle on June 26th and June 27th.

All are welcome to join the fun for a suggested $5 donation; food and drink (including beer) will be available at the concession stand all evening; the debates each last from 9 pm to 11 pm, but we strongly encourage folks to arrive at 8:30 to secure seats and concessions.

General admission / No tickets involved

State Progressive Caucus Meeting

The State Progressive Caucus will meet this Saturday June 8 at 10 a.m. before the Democratic Party’s State Executive Council meeting in Raleigh, Enloe High School, 128 Clarendon Crescent, Raleigh. The caucus will meet in Room 1202.

We need to elect a new 2nd Vice President and did not have the required notice time to do so at the May meeting. This person will be responsible for growing the caucus’ membership and increasing our rate of member retention. If you would like to run for this position, you can be nominated/self-nominate from the floor. If you cannot attend, email us to request a proxy:progressivedemsoc@gmail.com

David Mora Marín obtained his PhD in Linguistic Anthropology from SUNY-Albany in 2001. He is an Associate Professor at UNC (Linguistics Department), where he arrived in 2004. He specializes in the historical linguistics and ancient writing traditions of Mesoamerica, specifically the Olmec, Epi-Olmec, and Mayan cultural traditions, and in linguistic documentation. He teaches courses on linguistic fieldwork, sociolinguistics, language and power, historical linguistics, writing systems, and spoken Yucatec Maya, among others.
