David Mora Marín obtained his PhD in Linguistic Anthropology from SUNY-Albany in 2001. He is an Associate Professor at UNC (Linguistics Department), where he arrived in 2004. He specializes in the historical linguistics and ancient writing traditions of Mesoamerica, specifically the Olmec, Epi-Olmec, and Mayan cultural traditions, and in linguistic documentation. He teaches courses on linguistic fieldwork, sociolinguistics, language and power, historical linguistics, writing systems, and spoken Yucatec Maya, among others.
